MARITAL STATUS / 2024 ACS← Main calculator

What percentage of men are single?
First, define single.

Searches say “single,” but the calculator can verify a narrower demographic fact: the share of U.S. men ages 20–69 whose ACS marital-status code is not married. That includes never married, divorced, separated, and widowed men.

What the number can—and cannot—say.

01

Not married does not mean actively dating

The ACS records legal or reported marital status. It does not ask whether someone is on an app, looking for a relationship, exclusive with an unmarried partner, or interested in dating your gender.

02

The result includes four marital-status groups

The model counts ACS codes for never married, divorced, separated, and widowed as not currently married. It does not relabel that group as never married, available, or unattached.

03

Age changes the answer dramatically

Ages 20–69 provide a consistent universe for this site, but a dating-age subgroup can look very different. Use the age sliders to narrow the joint weighted count before adding income or modeled height filters.

What percentage of men are single in the United States?

The page’s displayed percentage is the weighted share of U.S. men ages 20–69 who are not currently married in the 2024 ACS PUMS file. It is not a measure of active daters.

Does single mean never married here?

No. The measured group includes never married, divorced, separated, and widowed men. The page uses “single” only because that is the common question and immediately states the exact definition.

Does the Census know who is on dating apps?

No. ACS marital-status data cannot identify app users, relationship intent, sexual orientation, mutual attraction, or willingness to date.
