Cookie policy.
What loads after a choice.

Which cookies and browser storage the site uses, why they exist, and how to control them.

Effective July 24, 2026
In short

Google Analytics loads only if you allow it. The calculator works without analytics.

One private cookie remembers whether this browser sent the optional study. It does not contain your answers.

This summary helps you find the part you need. If it differs from a legal clause, the full legal text controls. This page does not replace advice from a lawyer who knows the operator, business, and places where the service is offered.

01

The short version

Google Analytics does not load unless you say yes. If you agree, it uses browser cookies to measure site use. The calculator does not need an account. It does not save your chosen settings in cookies. If you take the optional study, one needed cookie stops the same browser from sending another response. You can change your choice through the Privacy choices control.

02

What cookies are

Cookies are small text files stored on a browser or device. Similar technologies, including local storage, can remember preferences or help measure site use. This policy calls them out separately rather than treating every technology as the same.

03

The calculator does not save settings

The site does not currently store calculator selections in cookies or browser local storage. A shareable result link can include selected filters in its URL. This lets the same calculation be reproduced. Browser history and services that receive the URL may therefore see those selections.

When a link includes sanitized campaign or creator labels, those labels can be kept in session storage for the current tab. This lets attribution survive navigation. Session storage closes with the tab. After final research consent, only the coarser source, medium, and campaign fields can be copied into the stored research record. Content and creator labels are excluded.

04

Google Analytics cookies

NamePurposeDefault duration
_gaDistinguishes users2 years
_ga_<property-id>Persists session state2 years

These are Google’s published GA4 defaults. Browser limits or Google configuration can shorten them.

05

Cookie for study participation

NamePurposeDuration
pool_report_research_2026Records that this browser already submitted the voluntary 2026 study1 year

The cookie contains only the word submitted. It does not contain the research answers. It is HTTP-only and cannot be read by ordinary page scripts.

06

What analytics measures

Google Analytics may receive page URLs and titles, approximate geography, device and browser information, referral information, session statistics, and selected interaction events. Calculator events can include filters, state codes, result ratios, and spend bands. This site does not intentionally send names, email addresses, or phone numbers to Google Analytics.

07

No advertising cookies today

The current site does not load an advertising network or use cookies for targeted advertising. If advertising, additional analytics vendors, accounts, or personalization are added, this policy must be updated before those technologies are enabled.

08

How to turn off analytics cookies

You can decline before Google Analytics loads. You can change the choice through the persistent Privacy choices control. You can also delete cookies and local storage in browser settings. The calculator works without analytics.

Global Privacy Control is a browser setting that can signal you do not want data sold or used for targeted ads. The site currently does neither. Optional audience measurement remains off until affirmative consent.

09

Browser and device controls

Most browsers let you view, block, or delete cookies and site storage. Blocking all storage may prevent the site from remembering research participation, but the calculators themselves should continue to work. Deleting the participation cookie does not delete a previously submitted private research record. Settings apply per browser and device.
