How to hide your Tinder profile without deleting it

Hide your Tinder profile with five Discovery steps. Compare Discovery off with paid Incognito, including earlier Likes, existing matches, and how to return.

To hide your Tinder profile, sign in, open your profile icon, go to Settings, and turn off Enable Discovery. Existing matches can still chat with you. People you Liked earlier may still see your profile and match.

Turn off Discovery

Follow Tinder's profile-hiding steps:

  1. Sign in to the Tinder app or Tinder.com.
  2. Open your profile icon.
  3. Open Settings.
  4. Find Enable Discovery.
  5. Turn the switch off.

Check that Enable Discovery is off in the account you meant to change. Tinder says you then stop receiving recommendations and cannot Like anyone new. To return, follow the same steps and turn the switch on.

Discovery off or Incognito?

Use Discovery off when you want a break from new recommendations while keeping existing chats. A person you Liked before the break may still see your profile and Like you back. That can create a new match while Discovery is off, as Tinder's Discovery help explains.

Consider Incognito if you want to keep browsing and sending Likes while limiting who receives your profile as a recommendation. In its Incognito announcement, Tinder says members can still Like and Nope, but only people they have Liked see them in recommendations. Its current subscription list includes Go incognito in Plus. Gold and Platinum also include the Plus features.

The cited sources do not give complete current Incognito switch-on or switch-off steps. Check the feature's control and selected state in your own account, or ask Tinder support if the control is unclear. The recommendation rule does not establish that existing matches lose access or that earlier Likes disappear.

Billing and account deletion are separate

A visibility change does not cancel a subscription. Tinder says subscriptions renew until canceled, and uninstalling the app does not stop renewal. If you also want to stop future charges, identify the biller on your receipt and follow Tinder's cancellation instructions. Check the resulting subscription status with that biller.

For permanent account removal, read the Tinder account-deletion guide first. If you only want a break, use the Discovery switch and keep your account. When you are ready to receive recommendations again, turn Enable Discovery on.
