To delete your Match account, open your profile settings in the app or on the website, select Manage Account, then Delete Account. Choose Delete My Account rather than Hide your account. Before you confirm, check your subscription renewal and request any account data you want to keep. Match says deletion is permanent and does not send a confirmation email.

Choose between a break and permanent deletion
Match gives you a reversible way to step away and a permanent account action. Its profile visibility guide says a hidden profile leaves search results and cannot be viewed by new members. Earlier message threads remain accessible. People you have already contacted can still read and reply in those threads, where Match shows your profile as unavailable. You can change visibility again through profile settings. Hiding therefore suits a break when you want to keep the account and its conversations. The Hinge account deletion guide covers a different service if that is the account you meant to close.
The deletion guide gives a different final choice: Delete My Account. Match describes that action as permanent and says your matches, messages, and profile information are removed. Do not select it if you plan to return to those records. Match does not promise a recovery path in that guide. A profile being out of search is also insufficient proof that deletion occurred, because hiding produces that visible result too.
A third control appears in Match's subscription help: canceling a membership after renewal has been turned off hides the profile and photos, with a sign-in route to reactivate. That help page calls the step account cancellation. It does not describe the same outcome as the separate Delete My Account control. Read the name and result shown on your screen before confirming. The table below maps these similar labels to the result each help page describes.
Which Match action fits your goal?
The table may be wider than the screen. Focus it and use the arrow keys to reach every column.
| Goal | Control | Documented result or limit |
|---|---|---|
| Take a break | Hide your account or change Profile Visibility | Reversible; prior message threads remain available |
| Stop a renewal | Cancel with Match, Apple, or Google Play, depending on the receipt | Check the provider's renewal status; add-ons may be separate |
| Keep a data copy | Request personal data through Match Contact Us | Match verifies identity; other users' data may be excluded |
| Close permanently | Delete My Account in Match | Permanent; matches, messages, and profile information are removed; check renewal separately |
How to use it Identify who bills you and which data you want. Complete those actions, check their results, then choose Delete My Account if you want permanent closure.

First identify who charged you. Look at the subscription status in Match and the purchase receipt. Match says Subscription Status shows an end date and renewal status. On desktop, sign in, open the gear icon, choose Manage Subscription, then Subscription Status. On the app, open Profile, the gear icon, Manage Subscription, and Subscription Status. On mobile web, Manage Subscription may sit under Manage Account. If a payment is missing, Match asks you to confirm that you signed in to the right account.
For a subscription purchased from Match, its cancellation help points to Manage Subscription in account settings on desktop, mobile web, or the app. Follow every confirmation step and return to Subscription Status to check the renewal result. Turning off renewal and closing the profile are separate choices in that help. An add-on such as Private Mode also has its own Deactivate control. Stopping an add-on does not stop the main plan, so inspect each item you pay for. The paid-app guide explains how to judge a locked feature before a later purchase.
If Apple billed you, use Apple's subscription settings: on an iPhone, open Settings, tap your name, Subscriptions, Match, then Cancel Subscription. Apple says a red expiration message or the absence of a Cancel button can mean the subscription is already canceled. If Google Play billed you, open Google Play subscriptions, select Match, tap Cancel subscription, and follow the prompts. Use the Google Account on the receipt. Removing the Match app does not cancel a Google Play plan, and Match's deletion page does not establish a store-billed cancellation. Check the store's final status before assuming renewal has stopped.
Request wanted data while access remains clear
If you need a copy of your information, use Match's data-request route before the final deletion step. Match says to submit a request through Contact Us, choose I have a Safety or Privacy concern, then I want to access my personal data. Match verifies your identity before providing a link to the copy. This is a request, not an instant download. Wait for the result and check the file before you close an account that holds information you want.
The export has limits. Match says information about other users, including messages they sent to you, may not be released because of privacy rules. A data request is therefore not a reliable way to save a complete two-sided conversation. Match also says that after an account was closed, some data may already have been deleted or anonymized. If a particular record matters, do not assume it will be available later. Keep any received copy private because it can include your personal information.
A request for a data copy and a request to erase an account answer different questions. The copy lets you inspect data Match can provide. The Delete My Account control closes the profile and removes the records named in Match's deletion help. Neither the data-request article nor the deletion article states exactly when every retained record leaves Match's systems. If you need an answer about a specific stored item, ask Match through its privacy contact route rather than inferring it from an empty profile.
Delete the account in the app or on the website
Match says Delete My Account is permanent and removes your matches, messages, and profile information. Check renewal for either choice. If you plan to delete, request any data you want to keep before selecting Delete My Account. The same screen offers Hide your account for a reversible break, so read the final choice before you confirm.
In the app
- Sign in to the Match account you intend to close.
- Tap Profile, then the gear icon in the top right to open Settings.
- Tap Manage Account, then Delete Account.
- Select Delete My Account and follow any final prompts shown in your account.
On the website
- Sign in to the Match account you intend to close.
- Click the profile icon in the top right and open Settings.
- Choose Manage Account, then scroll to Delete Account.
- Select Delete My Account and complete the final prompts shown in your account.
Match's help page gives these app and website paths but does not show every possible private-account prompt. If a menu is missing, check the signed-in account and use Match's support route instead of guessing at another control.
Match says it does not send a deletion confirmation email. That matters when you check the result: an empty inbox is expected and cannot verify that your action worked. Record the final in-app or web result you see without saving another person's private content. Check renewal separately in Match, Apple, or Google Play, according to the receipt. If the account still opens normally or a charge remains scheduled, contact the service responsible for that result before repeating a permanent action.
Worked case: a paid account and wanted data
Consider a hypothetical reader who bought Match through Apple, has messages they value, and wants to leave permanently. They first check the Apple receipt and the Match profile to make sure they are looking at the intended account. They submit Match's data-access request while they can still sign in, then wait for the link and inspect the copy. Match may exclude incoming messages. If the copy omits something they still need, they can hide the profile and delay deletion while they decide whether losing access to that record is acceptable. The request cannot guarantee a complete conversation.
Next, the reader opens iPhone Settings, their name, Subscriptions, Match, and Cancel Subscription. They inspect Apple's status to confirm that renewal ended. If the copy has what they need, or they accept a missing record, they return to Match, open Profile, Settings, Manage Account, Delete Account, and select Delete My Account. They keep the final screen result and do not expect a confirmation email from Match. If they delay deletion, the account remains open and hidden. Either way, they check the data-copy result and Apple's renewal status separately from the Match account action.
The sequence changes if the reader only wants a break. They can hide their profile and leave earlier threads available, then decide separately whether to stop renewal. If Google Play is the biller, they use Google Play subscriptions in place of Apple. If Match billed them directly, they follow Manage Subscription and inspect Subscription Status. The example does not establish a refund, restore deleted matches, or prove the result of any reader's private account.
If a step or result is unclear
If you cannot reach Manage Account, confirm the signed-in account and try Match's documented website path when the app path fails. Do not infer that uninstalling the app deleted the profile. If the account cannot be accessed, use Match's official support or privacy request form and explain which account and action you need help with. Avoid sending your password in an ordinary message. A support case can clarify a missing menu or an uncertain result without asking you to repeat deletion blindly.
If a subscription still appears active, look first at the receipt. Apple's support page explains how to find the Apple Account on a receipt, and Google Play notes that subscriptions may be under another Google Account. Match's Subscription Status covers a Match-managed plan. An add-on can have a separate renewal line. Check the full list for each provider that charged you before treating a hidden or deleted profile as proof of cancellation.
For the final account choice, ask what you need to preserve. Hiding supports a reversible break; turning off renewal addresses a charge; requesting data addresses access to a copy; Delete My Account is Match's permanent account action. Do these in an order that protects the records and billing information you still need. If Match's current controls differ from the linked help, use its support route and record the result you actually see.
