What we found.

CDC estimated that 40.3% of U.S. adults age 20 and older had a body mass index (BMI) of 30 or more from August 2021 to August 2023. BMI is a number based on height and weight. This result uses measured height and weight. It adjusts for age differences between groups. It is not a diagnosis for one person. It does not show the overlap with the calculator’s Census traits.

ACS does not contain measured height and BMI for the same people. The calculator applies CDC rates separately and shows a range for how the traits might overlap. It does not substitute the national 40.3% result for a custom result.
